Dude, you are right on the money. How many times have I heard people talking about their constant probs with their Toyota/Nissan or whatever.....but then they're still like...Oh it's a good car cause its from Japan. I'm am NOT trying to talk trash about imports at all....I don't want to offend anybody. All I'm saying is I don't think the quality gap is as big as most people think. I think this whole thing just might be more about perception rather than facts.
Also, I remember seeing a survey somewhere that indicated that people with imports as more likely to maintain their vehicles well. There was a sizable percentage gap between people with imports who maintain their vehicles well and those with domestics who do. If I remember correctly about 8 percent more of people with imports do. It really makes you wonder....Do domestic vehicles have more probs because people expect them to? How many times have I heard...."why bother getting tranny service/coolant flush/new fuel filter/whatever....its just a Chevy/Ford/Chrysler....it won't last very long anyway...."
Anyways.....just some food for thought.
Oh....and just because you are almost forty doesn't mean you can't have a mustang. Dude....forty is the new thirty! Or the new 25 if you want it to be. You are not old.....forty was considered old like in the 1800s when the average life expectancy was only like 55 or less and poor nutrition and lack of good medical care caused people to age faster. But now thats totally not the case. If you really want a certain vehicle don't deprive yourself of it because of society's oppressive and rediculous expectations of what people in certain age groups should be driving. (According to my marketing textbook...people in my age and demographic groups should be driving Jeep Wranglers....ummmmm....no....no....and once again no! ). I plan to drive a totally bada$$ car when I'm forty....so do what you want and enjoy yourself.
