My scanner (Alex Pepper) shows a TPS value of 19% at idle and also at the key on postion. There are no codes because it is still within operating peramiters. The car runs fine and the throttle linkage is on the stop. I was wondering if this is a normal idle value. Also I am curious about other normal scan tool readings at idle. I own a 96 LX V6 ATX with no mods.

You see, its just that we're putting new cover sheets on all our TPS reports.

Ummm... yeah....

Seriously though I don't know the answer, but I can find out tonight when I go home if no one else knows.

Values around 20% are just fine and normal at idle.

Dosen't 20% seem to be a little high for a closed throttle situation? In my confused mind this would be like pressing the gas pedal down 1/4 and leaving it there.

I've just checked it in the Ford Service Manual:

Quote:

The normal range of the throttle angle measurement for the Throttle Position (TP) sensor is 0 to 85 degrees.

The graph they give shows that 0 to 15 degrees is considered IDLE and 76-94 degrees is considered WOT.

If 85 is 100% then 20% is 17 and 19% is 16.15 so indeed is's slightly high, but it's nothing to worry about.
If you want, replace it for your peace of mind, it costs about $20-25 and easy to replace unless you have a 95-97 Zetec.

No, this is what is supposed to be.

Leave it alone.
