I am familiar with the bang shift thing, it happened on my other Contour,I looked at the Ford Mondeo site, and it said something about a "Multiplug" on the transmission. Do the Contours have these?
What year model tour do you have?
The "multiplug" they are talking about, might be the MLP sensor, aka range senor, or the solenoid block.
It is possible, that if this only happens in shifts between 1st-2nd, then you might have a problem with a sticking piston in the valve body that controls this shift. If this is the case, only thing you can do is replace the valve body or have it completely rebuilt. There was a place were some guys purchused rebuilt valve bodys, that had Sonnax valves, for around $250. What was the name of that place??
I would try the TSS first, I guess, since it is not has evasive. Then I would check out the valve body. Keep us updated.
