Hello, its about that time again - my 12" is sounding a bit harsh and I'm now in the market for another - its a RF XLC , nothing special 200rms/400peak - I would love to hear any comments on a replacement, I havn't looked for subs in about 2 1/2 years and I know how series can change overnight - I'm looking for something $85 - $135 or maybe a little more depending on quality, performance ect.

My current amp is ~ Alpine MRV-1005
600w rms x 1 4ohm
300w rms x 2 2ohm ( don't prefer if possible )
150w rms x 2 4ohm

I'd prefer to run this 600x1 4ohm , so if that would help
Thanx in advance ! laugh

What about the box? I assume you are keeping your current one - what size?

I would look at the Blueprint 1202, Shiva/Dayton DVC twins, or if you can afford a little more, the Lambda PB 12".

Couple of quick questions;
1) How much trunk room are you willing to give up?
2) Do you want SPL or SQ?
3) Do you want top keep you current box or get a new one?
4) If keepeing your old box, what are the dimensions?

Answering these will better help people make suggestions.

1) Well I only have one and intend on keeping only one so I'd say about half of the trunk L/R at the most - room doesn't really matter here but you can really only make something so big for 1 skr.

2)I'm not quite sure on the difference between SPL & SQ, well I know about SPL but not on the tunning methods to direct to one or the other - I have two good 18db/octave Xovers so I'll most likely stick to the common sealed box - no bandpass ( due to trunk )

3)If I can get by with NOT buying a new box that would be great, the one I have is 3/4 MDF, sealed myself and packed full of fiberfill and hopefully will stand up to another speaker. ( the only concern is drill holes, thsi is the last time I mount ANYTHING on my speaker boxes, I have 2 amps & 1 cap w/dist. block - pretty much everything is stuck on it & hopefully the 1/2" wood screws I used didn't make any leaks This could be the problem that I'm having with my current speaker, works fine until I or the song really gets on the bass & then it will xscurt(sp) its self too much =ing a POP at the peak of the beat. This I will confirm this weekend but for now lets say its sealed.

4)The above box I have is a 1 cubic foot box w/a slight maybe 15degree wedge on the baffle side w/good post terminals -

Again thanks , everyones point of view is welcome and due to my amp not stable at all or not ment to run at 2ohms bridged I'd prefer to stay away from DVCs, ( 150w x2 4ohm frown vs. 600w x1 4ohm smile ) laugh
