Buzz Green here, UKON.

Hthomas, I can't even pronounce the last part of your signature, what does it mean? Personally, I know in nascar drilled rotors are no so popular. I think if you have the skill, which it sounds like you do, go for it. First, determine the max stress area, it is a simple calculation. of course, that is before you add heat to the equation, sorry I'm trailing off, but you should stay away from the high stress area, although I have studied the phenomena of "stress reducing holes". it's simple, put holes where the stress is, it gets rid of it, as simple as that. It's being studied I read in the journal of biomechanics... Anyhow, good luck, I want to hear how it goes.

Piece out,

Buzz

What the hell's your problem, Harden? For crying out loud. I'm surprised you didn't get your CEG account pulled for such outrageous bombast. What kind of a looser are you? Were you over-served at the sarcasm bar? Sheesh!! And I resent being called a "yokel" you jerk.

Give Silversnake his due. He wrote a nice reply, and sounds like a very nice fellow. A bit testy at times, but nice nonetheless. It's a good thing he clarified working for Brembos, since people are taking what he says seriously. If he wasn't qualified, then thousands of people who read this board and trust us all to get to the bottom of these complex automotive issues could potentially be placed in danger by an incorrect answer served up by an unqualified stoop. It's a higher calling and I think it's important to keep everyone honest.

Is there any way to know if a rotor has stress cracks?
Better yet, what's the difference between a stress crack and a regular crack?

Oh yeah, back to this ideot. Why ask such a dumb question? Everybody knows the difference between stress cracks and regular cracks. Stress cracks happen when there is too much force pushing or pulling on some piece of equipment. There is too much force and it gets a stress crack. Duh, from the stress!

Regular cracks happen when you are bending something back and force many times. There's not enough stress to make it crack, but there is enough bending to make the crack happen after some time. How much time depends on the number of bendings placed on the equipment. I think any brake expert would back me up on this. Rara? Silversnake? Anyone?

I'm exhausted. It's not easy setting people straight.

Alright..

10 dimes to a dollar that Bud miller, and HThomas, and our lates guy, from "thu-UKON" are all the same person..

All new posters... all ~10 posts.. all speak in the same manner, with the same corny jokes about normal things (thermal mass/custom fabrication/OEM) etc..

Just MY .02... since I don't want to EVEN add more fuel to the brake fire..

Man, this website is getting just plain poisonous. As I explained earlier, I have been lurking on this site for a while, just not posting a lot. Now I attempt civil conversation on this brake issue and I get skewered by Bud and Ray.

I have been called schizophrenic and slightly bipolar in the past, but those have been purely figurative adjectives. Roy, for you to suggest that I post under multiple screen names is the kind of folly that brings down a clobberative community like the CEG. I mean really, who would have time to post in three screen names?

Anyway, I sense a great disturbance in the CEG force. Tides are turning.

Fortunately I still have the Grand Am GT forums in case of questions about my other car. Those guys over there are really quite helpful (and frankly a bit more welcoming too). And their cars are neat. Fuel for the soul!

lol. Can't beleive I read this whole thread. What a joker. This thread should be locked for the unspoken rule of stupidity (and/or early april fools).

Am I the ONLY one who is laughing at all this? It seems obvious that its a big joke. A funny one too!

I'm just disappointed the hot-tub-heating thread fizzled out...
