I used a 30" silver piano hinge for the spare tire door. The trap door to get to the spare tire and a couple tools is (IIRC) 32" long and 14.5" tall. The door is finished with a simple silver handle and I put the Ford badge from the front grill a few inches above the handle. Bling. 
i also built something like that. i think i made it out of a 3/4" wood sheet. although i don't have a door like yours, mine is in two halves. it worked out pretty good.
