I'm kind of interested in switching my existing head unit which plays CD's for another one that can also play them as well as MP3's and other formats. The only problem is that I'm looking for one that may have 3 sets of RCA's, I guess i'd settle for dual preouts also but 3 is preferred. Can any of you recommend some to me? It'll probably be the last audio addition I will do to my car, since I'll be owning another car soon as I find what I want.
Contour will be my daily work horse.
P.S. Oh yeah for those of you who have an MP3 already how much difference is the sound inside the car amplified? Is it horrible? Just asking since I know there is a difference playing it in the home's hi-fi.

I will look around to let you know about the 3 RCA question.
I can tell you that with road/wind noise and decent quality MP3s (160+), you shouldn't be able to tell the difference. I notice obvious muddiness in bass in lower quality MP3s.

i am seriously considering an MP3 HU simply for the fact of it's simplicity of putting in a single disk and getting continous hours of music all while being able to read track/song/artists etc...and i'm just sick of having the odd few (favorite) CD's scratched from improper handling by ME while driving. I know sound buffs don't prefer MP3 format sound. Of course the lower quality of sound is a given. I appreciate good sound but i guess there are some sacrifices. P.S. OK, can anyone refer a link or site in which I can download MP3's of 160kbs+ consistently? I currently use Kazaa but it's a ***** to go through them as i need to listen to them over before i decided if they stay in the Hard drive. Thanks to whoever can help.

I've had the SH-99 for about 6 months and have been very impressed with it so far, the face is a little to bright and busy for my personal taste, but the rest of the features make up for it. Check around online for a good price.

I'm not too familiar with the JVC HU's. The SH-99 seems to be pretty neat. It is also a bit busy looking with various colors and all. I honestly prefer dark finished HU's like Eclipse, Nak's, traditional Alpine's.
But anyway, SH-99 looks like it is MP3 ready right? It'll run with the line-in or can i just pop the CD in and it'll play it? Correct me if i'm wrong. I'll make a not of it and also take a look at the Alpine SPATTMAN referred.
Do most of the head units that do MP3 also display the alpha text?

I have the Blaupunkt San Jose. No complaints other than the bright display. Has 3 pre outs ( front/rear/sub). And they are 4V.
I chose the Blaupunkt because it can display the most text at one time... like 12 characters. It will read ID3 tags ( both ver 1 and 2 ).
... Just FYI...
