good thought....i've always liked those old-style pathfinders, though i'd probably stick w/ a truck just for the utility factor....and i remember the baja-looking one BMR is referring to. <off to check autotrader again...>

yeah, perhaps. i've heard on more than one occasion that the 4-cyl ranger w/ a manual tranny is the single most reliable ford vehicle built in the last 10-15 years, and that would definitely satisfy the "need" portion of this little endeavor of mine. would rather find a 4wd V6 version to play with, but a ranger is definitely something i'll consider. i had briefly thought about those the other day but hadn't gone very far with it....

Werd! Those trucks are tough as hell and can last forever. Easy to fix, easy to maintain. Although Jeeps make for good cheap fun beaters as well.

This may not be what youâ??re looking for, but I was once considering buying a pickup truck for hauling furniture, yard equipment, and so on. I found a very practical trailer at Home Depot and simply pull it with my Taurus Wagon.

I'd point you towards the truck variant of the Cherokee, the Comanche or whatever it's called. Same platform as the "XJ", so parts are dirt cheap for the most part. 4.0 I6 are great, some years have a bad valve cover design to where they will begin to leak, but that can be fixed easily/cheaply. I'm looking around for one personally, and most seem to be owned by older men that babied them.

Older guy (30s) at work has a commanche. Low miles for its age. Seems to be a pretty decent truck. He says it needs a bit of work, and occasionally he has to take a different vehicle to work while working on the commanche but still decent. He always talks about his dreams of dropping in a bigger engine,etc.... though he already thinks he can beat me on the highway in it.

Well I had an '87 Cherokee 4.0 last me until 425 000km.... not too shabby at all. And she still trucks!!

(A few doors dont open, but nothin a lil "dubyadee" wont fix.)

well, the problem w/ that is i can't put a hitch on the G35. otherwise i'd just put a small receiver hitch on there and get a hitch rack for my bikes - solving my main concern right there. but, it would have to be a fully custom job...and thus probably visible and not attractive.

the MJ = comanche...yep, i'm looking at those too. would actually rather have a 4.0/4wd MJ than a ranger or any of the other trucks listed above, but they are harder to find. i'm definitely keeping those on my list, though....

Toyota Pickup gets my vote. A used volvo 240 wagon isn't a bad choice either. No 4wd of course but they run forever and get decent mileage. Some guy up here has a 91 cherokee for sale for $1000 4x4 4L 135k miles, I think I might give him a call...
