Remove the serpintine belt... start the engine... did the noise go away?

If it did, inspect each of the pullies. Replace/repair problems found.

If it did not... be afraid. Very very afraid.

So, I've been trying to figure this out for the last week. I was pulling away from a stop light and probably brought her up to 5k rpm's in 1st, then dropped her into second and noticed a strange mid-higher pitch whine that was variable with the engine. I've pulled the main belt off and it's still there, and even pulled the water pump belt for a couple seconds and it was still there. I'm guessing that I could be in trouble here since the cause is not belts or assesories. Any ideas on what it is?
