This is a guy (Mike Solis) who writes for CityBike Magazine ( http://citybike.com ).
An interesting point from the very in-depth article:
"On the final stretch of desert road leading back to the resort, I decided I wanted to see just how fast the R1 would go in first gear. My old personal record went to the 2000 GSX-R750, which hit an indicated 87 mph. The R1 smashed that record, showing 103 mph as the speedometer banged off the rev limiter on the desert floor..."
geeeez.....anyone wanna make a tranny for the contour that does 103 in 1st?............yeah yeah, i know it'd be impossible, but cool nonetheless....you'd never need to switch gears.....
We have a beautiful red one sitting on our showroom floor right now. Stunning bike. The assembly tech that puts them together and test rides them prefered the Kaw ZX-10 to the R1. Although the R1 is still an awesome bike. Sport Rider dynoed it at 158 RWHP. The ZX-10 had 164 RWHP. I would kill myself in a matter of minutes.
