i don't know how people do it in canada, but here in the states, its pretty customary to let somebody merge over in front of you, even if it's at the slightest inconvenience to you (1 car, [censored].) but, it would be quicker and easier to let 1 person infront of you than turn around and try the same [censored] all over again

That's why I miss driving a big rig. When a truck wants a lane, he just takes it. The car has the choice to back off or get smashed.

For those of you who have never driven in Northern Virginia, you wouldn't understand just how bad it is. Making a right turn and then turning around can be a half hour event.
The fact is that a merge zone is the responisibility of BOTH lanes. It is not a yield zone. If no one let you in, including the cop, then you are not solely at fault. A judge should see it this way and drop the ticket. There is no way I would just lay down and take 3 points. Best of luck to you.
Yeah, Fairfax cop like a mutha. Amen on the merge lane. It was backed up anyway so it wasn't like they were moving anywhere. I wasn't the only one with a problem getting in. I just happend to be the first in line on the right lane. There were several people behind me trying to fight their way into traffic. Thanks for the luck. I hope the Judge will undertand. I'll even pay the ticket if VA needs the income. If I thought I was wrong I'd admit it and eat crow however, I just think it's F'd up to begin with and having to get stuck with a moving violation and 3 points (which stays on my driving record for 3 years!) all over a miscommunication is just plain stupid!

Quit being anti-police.  Kidding. Yeah, that's BS. Fight it to the death. File a complaint on the cop (after the court hearing of course). Who cares if that goes on his record. It deserves to, that's the point of filing the complaint. Ooo I better stop being anti-cop.

Hmm... so far i blew a stop sign, went 55 Mph down a 25 Mph road, (I Was late for school, good excuse) and I saw a cop, he ignored me. I feel lucky whenever I speed... Maybe the cop decided, I aint worth pullin over, im in a Contour GL

Man, I sure am going to court over it! Oh, and I failed to mention that the cop gave me this advice. "Next time just make the right and cut through the shopping center." Umm if I'm not mistaken they will give you a ticket for that to. Evading a traffic signal. You just can't win....

So he admits he knew you were trying to merge but gave you a ticket anyway. Sounds like a great example of Fairfax County's finest.
Don't sweat it, though, just go to court and rationally explain the situation. Hope it works.
