I have been reading all these 1/4 posts with loads of interest. Mainly because I have the road test for my car, dated back in 1995, and Autocar magazine tested a stock 170hp duratec V6 to run the 1/4 in 16.1 seconds @ 88mph. I cant understand how SVT models cant seem to brake into the 14 second barrier? I thought that the extra 30hp and torque over the standard model would be enought to knock a second off the regular time? (please bear in mind in Ireland we have no 1/4 mile tracks, and I have never been to one,)
Is the gearing different on the American cars? What ideally would you need (or what kinda power) on a 2.5 motor to brake in the 14's?
I think the ST200 model our version of the SVT (with 200hp) is in the low 15's, (unmodified)I have the roadtest somewhere but I will have to dig it out.
One of my mates had a 1.5 , and then 1.6 CRX. (89 models) and he went to Santa Pod in the UK for a CRX meet. Everyone was getting into the 14's.....
