My engine's wiring harness was recently replaced. In the process, the dealership so fit to cut my amp's power wire to the battery short. Took me a while to figure out why I wasn't getting any sound. Anyway, I'm going back to the dealer to demand they fix it. Question: Should I insist on them running a new power wire or is splicing in to the old one and hooking it back up to the battery acceptable? Thanks guys. I know how to turn my radio on and that's about it. So your help is greatly appreciated.

Depends on the wire. If it was hella expensive I would demand they replace it. If it is some Radio Shack special I wouldn't bother.

Just remember the more splices you have in ANY line power, ground, or signal the weaker the transmission will be. If it were me I would have a new one put in or at least have them pay for it and put it in my self.

Quality is remembered long after cost is forgotten.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Really appreciate it. It's a red, thick wire, with a clear plastic cover. It says Scoshe on it or something like that. I think it was pretty expensive -- the car stereo salesman talked me into not scrimping on a power wire. So, it sounds like I need to demand that it be replaced new and not just spliced in. (I didn't do the install myself, so I'll demand that Ford throw a few dollars my way and head back to the stereo store.)

Yea scosche is good wire. But power wire is power wire theres not a huge difference, unless it were to be gold or somethin like that.

How far from the battery is it, IF you didnt have it fused in the first place, now is a good time to add one, use the fuseholder like a proper butt connector. You would need something like this:

Just connect the one end to your battery (with the wire they cut) and the other to your amps power lead.

Thanks again for all the good advice gents. The power wire is a foot or a little more than a foot away from the battery. Maybe halfway between the firewall and the battery. I do remember there being a fuse near the end of it originally. Unfortunately, the half of the power wire they cut is no where to be found. Probably in the dealer's dumpster. Won't be able to use your great suggestion now and save myself some time getting it fixed. I talk to the dealer about all this tomorrow.

It's fine that the mechanic had to cut it, but fix it or at least tell me about it for cryin' out loud. Besides, I'm dying to play the new Rush album during my commute .... smile
