I don't know what else could be using the serial port. Its a brand new computer. The obd2 program was the first program I installed and there is only one port. It read the r3232(whatever it is), just couldn't get a reading from the car. Also can serial to usb adaptors be purchased at any computer store?
For those with serial port issues.
Not sure if you have trued or not but you could check to see if they are turned on or off.
Right click my computer and click on manage. Then click on device manager. On the right you will see the ports. You can right click the port in question and it will give you the option to disable or enable the port. You can turn the ports on and off here. Hope this helps.
