340 watt Dual amp, 600watt 10" Kenwood subwoofer, both on sale cost under $100, but then I got a warranty so like $120. Anyways they want to charge me $65 for a box, $35 for the wiring kit and $55 for install. The thing is $65 for a box???? Cant I jsut build one, we have some old wood lying around here? Or do you have to buy a cerain type of box, or will any box work?

AS far as the box goes....I would say it depends on how crafty you are. They really aren't hard to make, but you have to make sure you built them to spec with your sub (aka how much air it needs). You probably shouldn't use just any old "wood"...you'll want to use maybe a medium density fiber board. You may check ebay to see if you can find a pre-assembled one for less money.
BTW....who makes DUAL or is it a new company....I know it is one of the cheaper brands that Best Buy just started carrying but that is all I know.

Some company called Namsung America makes Dual. That is where I got it at to Best Buy. It was either that or a brand called "Lightning" so I took this one. Plus I didnt need a lot of power.

And make sure the MDF is 3/4". You'll also need to decide if you want ported or sealed design. Once you get it designed, all you need is the MDF, screws, wood glue, and a sealing agent for the inside (silicone sealant). Just make sure your design is stable, strong, and airtight; and your sub will sound all the better. I (200+lbs) can literally jump up and down on my box and it doesn't budge.
I can't wait until I get to build my new box this summer

Walmart has a box for a single 10" sub, it runs about $30-$35. It's light grey and has a grill. Since your amp isn't that big, you can also pick up the 8 gauge wiring kit while you're there, it's about $17.

yeah i would stay away from walmart's boxes i dont think they're made out of MDF. their probly not braced(so their weak) and they probly leak air(lack of depth and SpL). he'd be better off gettin a decent prefabbed box made out of MDF for about $40 shipped off ebay.
but Wal-Mart does have what seems to be a decent deal right now. they got 2 5" LCD's and a dvd player for $275. but that may just be at the wal-mart here tho. i dont think the brand is any good but im not a big video enthusiast... i would like to have some screens tho

Make your own and know that the build quality is good. Materials are not that expensive and it doesn't require too much effort. Another good tip is to call the manufacturer and get dimensions for the box. Just tell them what your looking for (spl, musical, hard hitting)and they will give the exact dimensions. 3/4 inch mdf is required though since it is acoustically dead.

I myself am going to try and make a box sometime in the next couple of days. Just got (2)New 12in Rockford Fosgate 45+S&H and a c.h.e.a.p Pyramid 600w 4ch amp. It will do for now Also got (2)New MTX 4500 subs in box for 31+S&H of E-bay. I'll try out the MTX first but I think I'll end up giving them to my g/f for her B-day and Rock the Rockfords. So if you have any tips for me in making a box that would be great. Thanks and let the good time roll!!!
