Personally I would take the leash off of Tel-Aviv. I would let them go all out. They rightfully posses the land. Let them defend it any way they see fit, and not handicap them by telling them not to escalate.
As far as the rest of the middle east if I didn't get full co-operation of a country in the middle east concerning terrorism I would make damn sure I made them realize that only full co-operation would be tolerated. It sounds harsh but the fact is all great empires have fallen due to a lapse somewhere.(Think Roman, Ottoman etc..) If we want to ensure the safety of American society for the future you have to take a hard-line approach. It is the only way. Also, to all the liberals out there who feel that if we treat everyone with kid gloves and play nice it will be ok you are severelly(sp?) mistaken. And by all accounts were probablly the kid that got beat up for his lunch money everyday. If you do not draw the line you WILL be picked on or taken advantage of. Or worse in this case.

So does anyone have any thoughts on the off base theory that terrorism and similar behavior is simply a human form of automatic population control? Not that anyone is actually consciously acting with that motive, but that maybe our species has it built in to just randomly kill off a few hundred or a few thousand or a few million and presumably someday in the billions through acts of horrifying violence.

BTW, not to steal this post, but have you already pilfered your own soul for anything it were worth, you can now reclaim another. It even has a name!

I know the more liberal elements in our society mean well. But I also know they are wrong..as they were wrong in the equally frightening cold war..

That's intense, Dan. Extremely intense.

I got a bit carried away Derek, I am calmer now.

The United States should also move its forces out of Saudi Arabia and into Iraq since that seems to be a major complaint with Al-Q (I?m sure it wont solve anything, but Id just like to use it to further point out their hypocrisy to potential recruits).

Exerpt from 3/22 Newsweek article linked in another post

"Some in Spain have argued that if indeed Al Qaeda proves to be the culprit, then Spaniards will blame Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar. It was his support for America and the war in Iraq, they say, that invited the wrath of the fundamentalists. But other recent targets of Islamic militants have been Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, not one of which supported the war or sent troops into Iraq in the afterwar. Al Qaeda's declaration of jihad had, as its first demand, the withdrawal of American troops from Saudi Arabia. Osama bin Laden does not seem to have noticed, but the troops are gone?yet the jihad continues. The reasons come and go, the violence endures."

Well, you were right about one thing...the troops came out but "it didn't solve anything"..

Turn the middle east into a sea of glass.

Although the thought does seem pleasing at first, that is the stupidest thing we could do. If we nuke the crap out of that region of the world, then a massive portion of the oil reserves will no longer be accessible due to the high concentration of radioactive fallout that would remain. Imagine the effect on the world economy if something like half the worlds oil reserves suddenly becomes unavailable. Anybody remember that thread on "Peak Oil" posted a couple weeks ago?
