Yes, it is a new design, but still plastic, but people haven't been reporting problems so rock on.

To answer a previous question.....I would not bother ordering one online, just go to NAPA...I got mine (metal impeller) for around $70 out the door I think.

IF it does, it has not had any effect on either of my cars, both have been on the cars for several thousand miles.

Absolutely no change in operating temps.
