Alright the waterpump went out a few weeks ago and I decided I needed to get the car back on the road.

First off, I'm in Houston right now. So is there a place I can pick a metal pump up at? Should I order it online? What is the part number I should look for?

I plan on getting this fixed back up at school in Arkansas. Is this something I shouldn't worry about the dealer doing?

As far as $ goes how much will the pump cost and how much will the labor cost?

Thanks guys.

the waterpump can pretty much be picked up at any auto parts store. Its about $75 and you should be able to install it yourself.

I can do it on the side of the road, in 20 minutes... that's with the engine still warm-ish.

cooled off is a breeze..

The tensioner pushes down by hand, and there are like.. 8 bolts holding the housing on, underneath the cam cover... (plus the 3 to remove the cam cover)

don't take it anywhere.

Waterpumps actually tend to lean towards 60-65K on up...

Welp the how to is nice and all, but I can't just do this from a page of text describing stuff. For the love I don't even know where the water pump is located in the engine bay. Maybe someone could post a few pics...

Those would be Texas minutes I presume.

Took me 120 Canadian minutes including draining/flushing/refilling cooling system. Atx has more restricted access than mtx IIRC. Both my pumps went at about 65k miles, 3wks apart in May '01.

Open hood, it's just left of battery - you have to remove wp belt safety shield (3 bolts) for clear view.

There is no need to go to the metal impellor pump. The metal one pumps less, and the newer non-ford plastic ones are just fine. The problem with the early plastic ones, is they where plastic impregnated cardboard (or the other way around.)

Try and find a plastic one that is either light brown, or kind of a cream white. Those should be fine. I have the cream white one in my car.
