Hello,
I just bought a new head unit, a JVC KD-AR3000. The wiring harness did not have a specific power antenna lead, but it had a wire that was labeled "remote amp turn on / power antenna." I hooked that wire up to my car's power antenna lead.
The problem is that the antenna goes up when the head unit is powered on, in any mode. I only want the antenna up while the radio is in FM mode. Does anyone know if there is a way to accomplish this? I was thinking about just wiring in a switch, but I would like it to be done automatically. My old head unit had a power antenna lead, and it worked perfectly.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks, Eric

I've never heard of it going up in only FM mode and not CD-ROM mode... but I'm no expert. Mine goes up whenever I turn the radio on but I'm powered from my amp turn-on wire instead of the orange wire on my HU... Good luck, I'll have to mod mine if it turns out the orange wire only turns it on when you're in radio mode.

Everydeck i get has it but i buy like $600 headunits... My Eclipse 5442 and my Alpine CDA-9478 (i think its the model) both have them.. the pioneers from the 3500 up i think have seperate also

My hold head unit was a Rockford Fosgate, and had a dedicated wire (I don't remember the color) labeled antenna. When the unit was playing a CD, the antenna was down. When it was turned to FM mode, the antenna was up. That's the way I want the new one to work, too! I hate the way the car looks with the antenna up, and I rarely if ever listen to the radio.

JVC's aren't very good decks? That's not good. Well, I did buy the Best Buy warranty on it, so if it breaks I'll be able to get it replaced with a deck of my choice. Sounds like I'll need to install a switch!
Thanks for your help.

I've got a JVC KD SH-99 and mine does the same thing. Now my cheap ass Sony unit I had before this had the extra lead that allowed the Antenna to only go up when the radio was switched on. Biuying a more expensive deck isn't the problem. It's apparently a JVC thing and I think my deck does not qualify as "cheap"

My $1200 Pioneer P9 does not power with antenna with radio only . My Sony did . Anyway I complained to Pioneer and they told me it requires tapping into the Logic circuit if you have a single button that rotates between sources. If your radio has a separate button for CD, Radio, etc., you can try tapping at the switch. If you run off the power of the tuner it may create noise issues. You need some form of isolation. So the easy thing to do is add an external switch on the antenna wire .

My alpine cda-9811 does it. Now my antenna switch is almost useless.

my kenwood does it. anyway they only way then is to wire in a switch simply spliced into the power antenna lead. you'll have to run the antenna manually. i added a switch to mine anyway. i didnt want to burn it out from the antenna going up and down each time i scroll thru the sources though i think the hu has a 1-2 second delay. anyway, my pics folder has my switch on w/ the on-status blue led wired in too.
