I helped him out a lot with this car and I needed something after what happened to the slowstique soooo, yep there you go. Look around but definately foreign is the way to go in this department.

Word. I got a older classmate selling a 93 Accord for $1250. Only problem is there is a very small leak of oil. I would really like a DD due to me not wanting to drive my new car everyday.
After my incident I learned that it is key to keep milage as low as possible.

Ford Escort/Mercury Tracer. No resale value, good reliability, and parts are cheap and plentiful.
Another good option is the 1991-1994 Nissan Sentra. I had one of these, and Raves felt better and more upscale than the current Sentra. The 1994 Limited Edition and GXE models have a particularly nice interior.
If you're willing to go towards $2000, no picture, but a 1992 Sentra GXE with 93,000 miles is asking $1900. 5-speed, and 27 miles from you. Advertised in the Washington Post. I found my RX-7 through cars.com, and I think they're an excellent search tool. There's also a 1992 Sentra with 81,000 miles asking $1150, but they don't say trim and it's over 100 miles from you.

I vote for Subaru, early 90's model. My dad has a 1991 Subaru Loyale w/ about 250,000 miles on it and it has never had any major problems. I personally don't like the way it looks but the features are great. It has a turbocharger and all wheel drive.

Early 90's Eclipse GSX, Talon TSi or Laser RS. (all esentially the same car) I cant remember what years have the AWD turbo. but if you can find one they are scary fast and a blast to drive.
