Rudy Guliani said it best on Fox News Sunday last week: "Nobody owns 9/11." He was talking about the protests about Bush airing those images of 9/11. That it would be crazy if Bush left out any reference to 9/11, it happened during his presidency, that's a fact. The protests, particularly the press conference that the "families" aired their grievances, were sponsered by a group called "September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows", and anti-war group which recieves aid from "Moveon.org", a well known anti-Bush organization. I think that the outrage about the images is more politically motivated than anything else.

"Peaceful Tomorrows" is in essence trying to "own" those images but I'm sorry, they DON'T. Those images are part of us all. We were all affected by 9/11. We may have not lost loved ones, but plenty of us lost our sense of security. It's ridiculous for them to try to "possess" those images from the rest of us. They're ingrained in each of our minds. Bush has every right to use them, they belong to history.

Here's an interesting OP/ED piece on this:

Maybe he had every "right" to use them, but it would have been nice if he had had the decency not to. I can understand why some people who had loved ones killed there would like see the images of that day not used for the political gain of the Republican Party.

If we forget the past, we are doomed to repeat it. Look how far we have come since that day. I think alot of people that lost friends and family in 9/11 (myself included) are not upset over it. Like was said, its the small group of people, along with the backing of all these rediculous President Bush- bashing groups (ie moveon.org) that are trying to politicize 9/11 to make President Bush look like the bad guy. I hate when people lose site of who the real enemies are.

9/11 happened on his watch and it's a part of his resume. Period. He's got as much right using it as part of his campaign as Democrats who seem to drag the specter of JFK, MLK, Jr. or Vietnam out of the grave every chance they get.

Since so many Democrats now think Bush did such a horrible job responding and working 9/11, I figured many would be overjoyed in him bringing up such a massive failure on his administrations part...

...or is it one HELL of a major threat in that one of the most defining moments in US history was handled rather admirably under this administration?

Given the political garbage coming from those that are whining loudest about these ads, I'm banking on the latter.

So no political party can use historical evidence to back their position? We can't see pictures or video of things that make people who they are or our country the way it is? Or is it more decent to just show a black screen and say "Vote for me because I said so"?

No but it strikes me as hypcritical for our President to wrap himself in the flag in this issue when he at first tried to prevent an independent commission from looking into 9/11, eventually caved in under public pressure and appointed a commission of friends to look into this (including HENRY KISSINGER - I kid you not) and then refuses to cooperate with this commission.

It seems like the one who wants to forget history - or at least the inconvenient bits - is GWB himself.
