If you have an ATX, I would not suggest you go with 17's unless you are just modding the car for look's. If you do, that is about all it will be good for. An ATX already has enough drive train loss to kill a horse and adding 17's just increase's that loss.

If you have an MTX, then do whatever you can afford.

Just trying to tell the truth here. Ask Hector! He can tell ya first hand. Although the car will handle better, the top speed and overall striaght line performance will fall.

There will be a dyno in HSV, right? I will bet cha!!

I went back and did that Miata Tire calculater and it shows that with your new tires on the 17's you have, that puts you at almost the exact same measurement as my stock 15's, sooo I shall eat my words...

I never thought of this before, but that is exactly why my car seems to have such a bad-a$$ stance with my 15" rims:

Granted, theres an extra 10mm offset too to push the wheels out a bit, but not putting 17's on keeps the car real low to the ground, and she handles REAL well

Also, since those rims in that pic are only 15" rims and weigh less than stock rims (IIRC about 16lbs each compared to the stock 22lbs) the car feels alot quicker in the summer when I have these rims on (i use my stock rims for winter wheels)

EDIT: not to mention that even with only 15" rims and the BAT handling kit, my wheel gap is nearly perfect:

Aren't the FSVT's 17" wheels lighter than our 16" ones? Wouldn't that be BETTER for drivetrain loss?

lighter is always better for driveline loss, less weight to spin = less loss and more power to the road. if you buy wheels and performance is top priority, get the lightest wheels you can find. The lightest I've heard of are centerline (IIRC) and they're like 11lbs, but very expensive.

What you have to look at is total weight of rims and tires not just the rims. 17in rims with a bit more weight but 17in tires with lower side walls less weigth so if the total is same i woudl go with the 17s any time.

I'm probably just going to go 16s. with a 215/50/16 tire. unless theres any objection to that?

Didnt catch it in time to edit...225/50/16 tires....not 215/50..plus i'm going more for looks just to let yall know. I am doing some exhaust work and minor engine upgrades, but nothing overwhelming. SO just bare in mind i'm apealing(sp?) more towards looks.
