Long while back my friend in a 01 Z24 MTX raced my newly replaced engined zetec MTX and the results suprised us. They were bith almost dead even. Even after swapping cars with each other. I'm pretty convinced though after seeing a few at the track that this was a fluke and his car was under powered. I know the ones at the track had Cold air intake and probably some other work because they were running 15.4's to 15.9's between them.

A decently modded atx zetec (like my car+a header+smaller wheels) or a barely modded/maybe even stock mtx zetec should be able to beat most z24s. Of course there are plenty of exceptions for both cars.

I'm not sure what 2.3 liter dohc motor a cavalier would have.

In 95' there was a 2.4 dohc motor related to the quad 4, and a 2.2l ohv motor that was shared with the s-10.

If you have a V6 ATX, the 2.4 is close, and will likely be faster with a 5-speed.

A 2.4 MTX Sunfire 2dr was about even though just a hair faster than my duratec mtx contour.

I accidently pulled up next to a riced out 2002 caviler this past summer. saw he had huge wing, monster tach, exhaust and i'm guessin intake. i have a v6 mtx and at the time a horrible clutch but still managed to walk him pretty good. his was mtx as well. i'm thinkin it should be close.

I think most or all of the 2002's have ecotec motors, but I might be wrong.

Only if the owner of the Z24 does NOT know it's a race.

The 2.4L DOHC averages 15.7 in MTX form and 16 flat in ATX form for the 3rd gen J-bodies when bone stock.

That's V6 MTX territory. A Hell of a lot faster & quicker then ANY Zetec is!

In 2002 they made a mid year switch from Z24's with the 2.4L Twin Cam (150/155) to LS Sport's with the 2.2L Ecotec (140/145).

I run neck to neck with older z24s....and new ones. Who cares about numbers....it is all about drivers.

Well I saw one running a time at my local drag strip that I could reach and that plenty of mtx zetecs have already reached... What they're supposed to run and what they do run are two different things.
