As soon I put the key in the car and turn on the power (without starting engine) my temp. gauge rises, goes all the way to the right and stops just past the red block. engine is stone cold however. So I replaced both the engine coolant temperature sensor and the gauge sender sensor in the thermostat housing. That didn't fix my problem. The connections are tight, What else my cause this problem.
Thanks

Does it stay on red when the car is started? If so do your fans kick on?

Any mods done lately? Anything out of the ordinary done to the car recently?

Yes, it stays on/passed the red when the car is started and running. The fans do not kick on. When the engine warms up the heater works just fine. The cooling system works perfectly, just my gauge is screwy. I haven't done anything to my car recently, except for changing the two sensor after the fact.

Man that is odd. I just put on gauge overlays and I had to take out the instrument cluster to do it, and played around with the needles & such. It sounds like a gauge problem, not anything else.

I'm stumped...

Anyone else have a similar problem??

Unplug the wire from the sending unit and check the wire for a short to ground with a meter. A dead short will cause the meter to peg.

Unplugging the sender with a properly operating guage will cause a "no reading" condition.
