I just put in a new pair of MTX Thunder 8000 15" subs. They sound incredible, but the trunk on my 96gl rattles and I was wondering if there was a cheap way to fix this....?

Have you checked your license plate? Many times the rattle is a resonating license plate (at least over here with our euro style plates).
Another place to look for would be the locking mechanism of the trunk lid.
If that doesn't help you'll have to try and find the source the hard way (i.e. turn up the volume and crawl about your car listening for the rattle)

Get a Dynamat License plate kit off ubid (Don't know if there is one on there right now, but there usually is), and use some sound deadener on the entire trunk (lid, deck, floors, walls, everywhere!) Doesn't really matter what kind you use, get the best for your buck...People will probably flame me for saying that, but all types work pretty comparably...

The only way you're going to stop the rattle from those things is to unhook them...lol!!! Good luck.

rattles are based upon frequencies........rattles can be muffled but you cant get rid of them.......they come with the package........

Joerg Walzenbach; that's what I was going to say! Pull out everything in the spare tire well and all of the carpet in the trunk and cover the metal with some Dynamat or whatever you can find. I put one layer covering the entire trunk, then a couple of layers covering the trunk lid; that's where most of the rattling is. If that doesn't stop it, find the source the hard way (i.e. turn up the volume and crawl about your car listening for the rattle)

You need Dynamat. The trunk rattles due to the excessive amount of low frequencies (Bass) from you subs. License plates are notoriously bad rattlers. But also seams of the trunk will rattle. You need to cover the trunk lid in a layer (or more depending on how loud your subs are) of dynamat. DO NOT USE SPRAY ON DYNAMAT, IT IS FOR PLASTIC ONLY!

I found no matter how much sound deadening 'stuff' you put into your car there will always be a rattle somewhere.

I would suggest buying some Cascade Audio VBlok Quite-Kote. I used it in my latest insatll and will never go back to sheets. This is a longer process as far as dry time but worth it to me. Just someting else to consider. Avaliable at Sounddomain and partsexpress

I have my 2 12's in a sealed box so it does not rattle the trunk at all. The licence plate rattles a lil bit though because of the Streetglow licence plate neon.
