..after sitting in a 2004 at an AutoShow.

My only concerns are clutch, stereo, and warranty. Any current SRT-4 owners on this board: can you tell me if the clutch movement of this car is too awkward or heavy to be used for a 6'1" dude as a daily driver ? Any comments on the stock stereo system (I'm coming from a 'continque, so anything would be better than what I have). This car is intercooled, so I don't imagine detonation is much of a problem on 93 oct' (even in the Texas heat), but I've read that the SRT-4 comes with 11-14 pounds of stock boost. Does anyone know anything about the stout relaibility of this block and the SRT-4 stock heads to handle that much boost on a daily driven basis for any amount of reliable time ? I'm also concerned about the turbo.

Does anyone know if the Mitsu TD04 is known to have any serious bearing wear after a couple of years of regular use, without the use of a turbo timer ?

I remember reading a thread before about the stage kit addons from the dealer voiding the powertrain warranty. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so for what stage kits (if not all) ?

Also, I'm curious as to whether or not that factory hood scoop is functional. I never got a good resolution on that one.. Anyways, I hope this isn't another 32 page thread, but there are many questions I'd love to get answered before I consider a test-drive.

BTW, before anyone asks, yes, I've considered a CSVT, and simply cannot find a nice, low-mileage one in the price range I want to spend for a car like that, that isn't sold right out from under me (I work for a 400+ dealership retail/wholesaler network, so I have looked).

Anyways, thanks for the info.. smoke'em if you got'em,

Tim

I say go for it. If I remember correctly, the hood scoop is functional. I think there is a mod you can do to it though to make it feed more air. Or maybe it isn't functional and it's easily turned into a working one. I'm sure someone will chime in on that. THe stereo isn't any worse than the Contour, that's for sure. If you havn't replaced any of the speakers in your car I'm sure you won't be dissapointed. As for the boost...they have some special computer control unit monitoring it. As of right now, I havn't read of anyone having too many major problems on stock cars at all. I know there are a couple of guys in the 12's I think right now with the stock block still. I was also told that any stage kit and your warranty is voided, but I looked into getting one as well (decided not to because of insurance prices) and the salesman, who is a personal friend, said that nothing is voided with the stage 1 kit. Beyond that I don't really know. I know the stage one kit is something like $700 and with it you'll get consistant 13.7's. I drive a CSVT and would trade it in for an SRT4 if I could afford it a little easier. I think the CSVT is better looking, but its whats on the inside that counts, right? It's a fast car, it's a low priced car, and lowering it I don't think it looks half bad. The blue one you pictured only comes on the '04 models, which also now comes standard with a limited slip diff. Bottom line is go for it I say. Stage 1 SRT-4 with warranty still. Can't argue that. "Fugly" or not.

i'm not an owner, but i do read alot
1)it seems they do a basic 'spring mod' that has boost peaking around 17 and drops to around 14ish at redline.
2)the 'drag srt' uses stock block and other parts too..but i dont know what #'s its running..also there is a person that is already in da 12's, srtgurl or soemthing like that on the forums.
3)dont know about the mistu turbo
4)the mopar stage kits are under warranty, maybe if professionally installed...but i know they are
FYI - First mod should be some coil-overs (lol)

Come on, ...and the SVT is just a Contour.

I think the SRT-4 is a cool car. I'm not a Dodge fan, but I was not a Ford fan and still am not.

The 17x6 wheels are a bit pathetic. Forget about wider rubber.

as far as the clutch being heavy... a co-worker of mine has one as a daily driver... he's maybe 5'9, scrawny as hell... i'm sure you'll be fine.

Directly from the Mopar Performance website...
Mopar Performance Parts Warranty

Mopar Performance Parts are sold "as is," without any warranty whatsoever. Implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, are excluded. The entire risk as to quality and performance of such parts is with the buyer. Should such parts prove defective following their purchase, the buyer and not the manufacturer, distributor or retailer, assumes the entire cost of all necessary servicing or repair.

Chrysler, Dodge, and JeepĀ® vehicle and parts warranties are voided if the vehicle or parts are used for competition or if they fail as a result of modification.

So any of the "Stage" upgrades that lead to problems/failures aren't gonna be covered. If a DEALER sells/installs the parts they may choose to warranty any problems, but rest assured that Dodge isn't gonna do it.

I like the SRT-4. From what I've read the engine is extremely stout and should be perfectly reliable if you leave it stock.

I just wonder if there is an option to delete the stupid wing and a body kit that gives the car more of an even stance than that silly rear-end-in-the-sky look.

SRT-4s look really good with a lower suspension. And I bet that the wing uses the same mounting points as the smaller wing on the other Neons, so you could probably just swap 'em out.
