I just finished my UIM/LIM cleaning/rebuild today, and as I was fiddling with something JUST BEFORE planning to do the first start up, my clumsy hands had to snap one of the two tubes at the top of the UIM. I know one of them is for the brake-boost, but I broke the other one beside it. I taped off one end to the UIM to avoid a vacuum leak, and the other end of the tube to prevent sucking in unfiltered air. What my question is, what the hell does this tube lead to? My car is running awesome after the rebuild, but im wondering why I dont have any problems. My check engine light, however, did come back. Luckily no more codes for running to lean (knock on wood), but the three codes I do have is po420 (oxygen sensor bank 2 being replaced this week anyways), another code was for my TSS (also being done this week), and the last one was EGR Flow Insufficient. I am very doubtful my egr valve is out, and i know it isnt clogged because I just cleaned those passages.

So my main question is, does that broken tube lead to something that has to do with the EGR?

One is brake vacuum
the other I believe... runs your vents...I think

Where did you break the tube at? The middle? I taped mine up for a long time before I decided it's best to get a new one.

The tape fix may get you going for the short time until you get the new one.

You didnt read a thing I said. I broke the other tube, not the brake boost one. It doesnt run my vents because my vents are working properly. I did tape it. Somebody read my post and answer my questions please!

Edit: sorry about the attitude, I realize you are trying to help.

Nate'sTour correct it does run vents but it also runs EGR valve via EVR (EGR Vacuum Regulator), the black plastic thing with round top. Vents have reservoir(with check valve) which may explain delay in them being affected. Unfortunately you cannot just buy the black plastic tube on top of UIM but must buy the whole vacuum hose assembly (about $40 IIRC). Brake booster hose (also with check valve) separate part, but cheaper.

p.s. Check underhood vacuum routing diagram, pass side strut tower.

Uh yeah, YOU didn't read my response partner, I asked if you can tape it up as in put one broken end on the other broken end and put tape around it to seal it.

Thank you for your help Horseydug. I am thinking about trying to get lucky with a junkyard and find a duratech with the that hose still there. I know I wont be spending $40 for things I dont need, so if anything, Ill run some other sort of tubing and seal it off.

And both of you are right, there was a delay in the vents. Today I noticed that it wasnt switching from defrost no matter what setting I had it on. Yes, I felt stupid and even more confused about the EGR after I noticed that one.

Glad we got that sorted out, I prefer amicable happy endings.

If U haven't found one in the boneyard or bought from ford, U can try "splicing" the two pieces together with shrink tubing - 2 or three layers, shrinking each befor U slide the next one on. It's been working fine on my Duratech for 2 years now! -(and all that heat under the hood just makes 'em tighter!)
