I'm trying to get the hub separated from the bearing, and it seems to be really stuck. I've got a ford service manual. I have the caliper, rotor, and axle nut off, and I am trying to pull the hub off the knuckle assy. I've got a puller similar to the ford one, the axle pushes way in, but the hub doesn't budge. I am scared anymore force will damage the axle, or worse, the MTX. Anybody come accross this problem before? My arm is getting tired of swinging my hammer.

I've been there, done that. You'll have to take off the whole knuckle assembly as the bearing is pressed in from the backside. You'll have to press the spindle out (unless your puller will push it out) and then remove 2 C-Clips, the press the bearing out. Reverse the process to install. The knuckle was a pain in the a$$ for me to get back on the car. I imagine that most of the people on this board have changed at least one wheel bearing so maybe someone else will chime in with tips.

Good luck!

You didn't mention that you disconnected the lower ball joint....

If you didn't, you will never get the knuckle off so you can get to the bearing.

Ahhh....good catch! Yes, you need to d/c the lower ball joint to get the knuckle off, and a control arm of some kind too, IIRC.

No, I haven't got to that point yet. According to the manual, you are supposed to pull the hub off the knuckle before you remove the knuckle from the car. Problem is that the hub won't budge, so I will have to pull the knuckle out with the hub, have the hub pressed out, and then the bearing pressed out. And yes, I will have to remove the knuckle by disconnecting the lower ball joint along with the pinch bolt that goes to the strut, and the tie rod end.

easier to replace the hub and bearing assy. Don't cost too much, but is big PITA for home mechanic. When my bearings went, even the dealer replaced the whole assy. You know they will do the easiest thing!

Need a hydraulic press to get those bearings outa the hub.
