Hi guys,

I'm thinking about getting one of these units for the SVT:

http://www.midwestelectronics.com/product_info.php/cPath/21/products_id/61

Its a nav system that has voice commands, no map though. A couple years ago it listed for $1,799. Now it is on clearence since they have a new system with a large lcd and map. But hey, for $275 and a free nav disc, I'd be silly not to buy it!

Any thoughts on that unit?

Very cool. So it's CD-based navigation? It has the GPS unit built-in.

I'd be interested too.

My stock CD deck annoys the heck out of me.

Here's another link for more info. Too bad it doesn't play MP3s.

Yeah, I have an mp3 deck now, and I kinda don't want to loose that. But navigation is something I would like to have. The only thing that I'm having trouble with, before I buy it, is how to get a signal input. I want to put an mp3 cd changer in, but the deck is only compatible with blaupunkt cd changers, none of which play mp3's. And it doesn't have any external inputs.

Maybe I could use an FM modulated one, but I wonder how good the sound quality is....

Okay, so I have answered my question about getting an input. For $29 these guys make an adaptor that will convert the cd changer input into standart RCA input:

I cant comment on that specific unit, but I have been very disapointed with my Blau cd player. It has big issues on cold days and the buttons dont want to work half the time.

Hmm, that's good to know. I have a Sony deck in the other car that has buttons that fall out.

Blaupunkt satisfies my need for something different, but if different means bad quality, then forget it.

Cool technology, but could be a b*tch to hook up. It needs input from the VSS (vehicle speed sensor).

Which model do you have? I currently have the Blau San Jose MP3 cd player and it has worked flawlessly for a year and a half now. I have heard some negative comments toward their lower end units (the ones that are made in china) though. So about quality, I'm not too concerned, as I personally have had good luck with them... But I appreciate the comments.

I have decided to order that unit and go ahead with the installation myself. I figured I just had to jump at the opportunity before they sell the rest of those (its #4 on their best seller list at Midwest right now). I'm going to gut my whole factory speaker system: new component speakers/tweeters, new amps, and a new DVC sub. I bought an input to the deck straight from midwest, and I'll probably hook up something like an iPod to it also.

I have the Casablanca.

I forgot to mention that it also has issues with cd-r's. It plays them, but with an annoying crackling sound. Its all cd-r's, not just a certain brand.

Hmmm, the Casablanca is supposed to be a good one I thought. Did you ever try having it serviced? You shouldn't have to go through that, but they might be able to help.

You didn't happen to buy the unit on ebay, did you? Blaupunkt used to have a warning up on their web page about counterfit head units being sold on ebay and cheap internet stores. They said that the units were not actually manufactured by one of Blaupunkt facilities. The Blau service centers were getting a bunch of these things in with problems, and would refuse to repair them because they were fakes. Who would have thought someone would make counterfit electronics...
