Yeah, I managed to total my dad's '95 V8 T-Bird. I slammed on my brakes to avoid rearending a "brake rider", you know those people, and then got rearended myself. He bought it very used and got a good deal, which meant he actually made money from the insurance. But if you can manage to find a cheap but good body man your all set, or learn collision repair in you spare time.

Oh yeah sorry about your car.
You gotta love the parts vultures around here. The f**king car is still warm and you've got the guy playing Mr. Pick 'n Pull.
How many damn Contours are in junkyards across this great land? Go buy a friggin' headlight assembly for 10 bucks and let my man mourn in peace.

Sorry to hear that. Accidents do happen. Maybe you can look into getting an SVT now?

I presume you'll be grabbin' the bug for yourself to drive.
Sending him for estimates is a good beginning to instilling the value of a dollar & the importance of more attentive driving.
My daughter clipped a concrete filled post at a gas station in my BMW a few years ago. I had her gather estimates for the repair (then fixed it myself a few months later). That really made an impact on her. I then had her take a defensive driving course on her dime - which she was happy to do as apposed to any other punishment I might have chosen. All has worked out fine.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

An SVT would be a great thing to have but, my insurance rates would go off like a bottle rocket. Maybe after he leaves to nest, I can have one. He's the reason I only had liability insurance on it in the first place. $180 a month and he has a spotless driving record. Full coverage would have exceeded the value of the car in a short time. Now I have less than that. It went from being a $3000 car down to a $600 car in one day. I feel like I just bought a new car, for somebody else! BrittB

When you save money on insurance by cutting coverage it's a good idea to take a portion of the savings & fund an emergency account for just such an event. I learned the hard way years ago. I continue to drive without comprehensive - I just have liquidity to cover any unfortunate events. Now I do the same thing with my mortgage. WOW!! talk about hauling in the cabbage! I've got a 1.25% loan. MY payments are WAAAY down, I'm debt free otherwise, I save what would have been the difference on a 30 year fixed loan (which is easy 'cause I have no other debt), & I am paying off principal more than twice as fast to boot!! By the time I retire, I expect to have over 2 million in savings and I'll have paid off my home. Not at all shabby. The great thing is... anybody can do it!

Can I have $1500 to fix my contour? It'll look shiney! And I'll let you take pictures of it!
