My son was leaving his girl friends house with my 96 Mystique and mistook the gas for the brake while reversing out. He hit a pole hard just inboard of the right tail light on the trunk and it bent the trunk floor just to the inside of the bumper mount. It's still drivable but I know it would cost more to fix than it's worth. I really liked that car and now I'm crushed. The funny thing is, yesterday I had a gut feeling that something was going to happen to it and it wouldn't make it til the weekend. I even told him he couldn't drive it anymore but I changed my mind thinking I was just being over protective. Now, I'm just f***ed.

He normally drives a 72 VW Bug (which is also mine), but we are just getting finished up on an engine rebuild so it's not in service for another day or so. I didn't think he'd have a problem with an ATX. Guess I was wrong! I only had liability insurance on it too because I didn't think anything was going to happen to it since he just needed it to go to school and work. Dumb plan, huh? He's broke right now too so I won't see any money out of him. I'm not quite sure what to do about it.

1. Headlight from a Contour will not fix a Mystique (from what I have seen)
2. Yes... Ass

That was sure tactful!
And no it won't. Mystique and Contour headlights are not interchangable.

Although I know it was an accident, I have to be a little hard on him. I'm not going to stay mad at him or hold a grudge. I am going to put it on him to somehow make right on the situation. What that entails, I have no idea. I'm thinking that I should have him go an get an estimate to get the frame yanked straight and replace the trunk lid and bumper ourselves. He can pay as we go. I can do the paint too. I really do like this car so I want to get it fixed rather than have a huge parts sale.
