hey i don't have time right now to answer all your questions. First of all, I'd like to say that i think you are a great guy, and I'm not trying to put you down. Also, I'm sorry about the misconceptions about the Zapco amp thing. That was my fault. And, I can actually tell the difference between a zapco and the other brands that you mention, but it doesn't seem that other poeple can and....there doesn't seem to be a HUGE difference....but I can definately tell a difference. OF corse, I can't speak for McIntosh because I haven't heard them. Also, I can explain the guitar thing, I'll do it later if ya want me to, just let me know!

I just want to say that I agree with dave. The shape of a speaker doesn't really affect the way it would sound in; distortion and sound quality. If you look at it, they've come up with square (kicker), triangle (bazooka), and hex (xtant). I've heard both kicker, and the xtant subs. Kicker's square subs honestly, i think sound just as good as their older circular solobaric subs. As for the xtant hex shaped subs, they sound MUCH better than their circular subs from the past. I must agree, that it did scare me when i first seen funny shaped subs. But they were made as an improvement over their past predecessors. As for what has been said with oval shaped speakers, i do agree on the part that they don't usually sound as good as their round speakers, but I think that it's only in part that they focus more on making their rounded speakers better. I would think because they are easier to place around the vehicle, and also because they have been doing it since the dinosaurs were on the earth. So might as well work with something that has already been worked with for a long time.
Anyways, back to the point. Shape of the speaker doesn't mean it will cause more distortion, or have worse sound quality than circular ones. if this was so, then i would've not gone with JL's XR570 (5x7) for my rearfill. They actually make up for some of the midbass i don't have in my car. I am actually thinking of selling those (PM me if anyone is interested), because i will be shoving 8's in my front doors. But like what was said, it doens't matter on the shape of speakers. a good speaker, is a good speaker. Nuff said.
Give me more beer and CEG before i get depressed!

I listen to just about everything, so i need something really versatile. what do you all think? They're Audiobahn 6x8 plates. Both TonyD and I picked some up from ubid for $29 (an absolute steal, haven't seen them since). Read my review of them here: Bahn vs. Pioneer

99badsvt,
I know that your info is very close to being right on, but i like to clear up some of the car audio myths that are so prevelant in the industry. It is nothing against you. Also, there are potential differences in sound between all of the amps I listed. My point is that you, in dbx testing, couldn't pick out one amp from another, much less pick out the Zapco and consider it best. Nothing against you or your ears, but this type of test has been done far too many times with people with ultra sensitive hearing, and no conclusive evidence has ever been extracted that anyone can tell the difference, hence Richard Clarks $10,000 amp challenge.

I've used a variety of different brands in different vehicles. By far my fav so far are the Boston Acoustics that I put in the tour. They make a component and coaxial 5x7. My $.02 ($1.69 Cdn) Cheers

I think you may have to drill some new mounting holes. No big deal, though. My 'Bahn plates are not for sale. However, I've still got my Pioneer plates for $50/shipped if ya want 'em.

I think it's a bit more accurate as there's no pole prodruding from the center of the woofer. Bass extension won't be quite as low due to the smaller surface area of the woofer, but I think it's a bit "crisper" due to aforementioned reason. If you're running a separate sub, it won't matter. BTW, if you decide to go with the Bahn plates look into the Dak clones the guy listed in my review link. The Bahn plates seem to be retailing close to $200 these days!
