At a legally sanctioned racing event, I was paired up with a 2003 RSX type S and was suprised with the results. I pulled hard off the line, obviously at least partly to do with the fatter torque band of the larger motor and the better grip of g force tires. What happened next suprised me however. After gaining about a car length on the hole shot, the RSX was even with me by the time i shifted into second. At this point, all i hear is something liek 8k rpm screaming from his motor. After i hit second he had gained about half a length. The only reason i knew he hit second gear was because i herad the chirp right next to my window. Otherwise, he just kept on pulling like he had through the top of first. I had figured that if we were btoh in second, our acceleration would be similar, but he kept pulling-hard. our contours, specifically the SVTs make peak power right at redline and have a much thicker torque band. why did he pull so hard? i know his car is a bit lighter, but our quarter mile times are very close, as are our zero to sixty times. I believe his car was stock or close to it and ive got an intake. What happened?

Our 0-60 times on average stock are similar - SVT @ 6.9 and the RSX at 7.1 but yeah that lil car can pull - that K20C engine is mad w/vtec

average quarter-mile times for both range from low-to-mid 15's. Some lucky ones can hit 15 flat or a little under 15 with some fancy foot work. It's really about the driver when it comes to two evenly matched cars.

The RSX weighs in at around 2800lb. I think we're at like 3100lb. Same HP but we have more tq.

v-tech vs. duratech (SVT) basically its just the better drive.....cuz our torque spike hits nicely, but v-tech hits quite hard.....i know for a fact....my friend had a SOHC civic with vtec....that thing pulled like a beeeyotch and got loud as hell

sorry but i got to do it...... if you really want to beat him....check my sig!!!!

I've noticed that even though they have lower torque and same hp, they do trap higher than SVTs. Usually in the 91-94mph range stock. And if he had intake and hondata, just forget it. They are sitting around 97-99mph.

I guess I'm just one of the only skeptics who doesn't believe in the "top end pull" of the SVT. I have yet to see it.

I ran into 2 RSX type-S and both did 14.7 - 14.8 @ 96-98mph stock. MIR is a fast track because my best time was 15.2 @ 89 mph with only Bosal exhaust, intake and 110 octane .

Kung Fu Joe: I think the top end is pretty good on the SVT. I have surprised many high rollers namely Infinity G35 Coup, Mazada RX-8, Acura Integra Type-R. I am talking about from at speed...50mph and here we go. Now obviously these vehicles have a higher top speed, and I am not saying I blew by these vehicles, but I was right on there tails and they could not shake me. Now I know they can shake me once we hit 140 and up. But of course that ain't gonna happen.

Same here. No stock V6 of decent size has "top end pull". Our engines are torque monsters compared to the screamers from our Japanese friends, but they will put a hurtin' on almost any domestic motor larger than 2.0L when it comes to revving to the sky.

I figure that's a reason cars like the Toyota Celica and Honda S2000 tach out up there at 7800 and 8200 (respectively) but any Duratec spinning at 8200 would be an invitation for pistons to shoot into orbit.
