No, an oval speaker will not distort more. The only thing limiting oval speakers is that most mfg don't offer high-end coaxs or seperates. A good quality oval speaker can be every bit as good as a round one. Ask the experts. :p And I don't mean your friend, if that's who you are referring to as an "expert".
