I don't understand why you won't have it TIG welded first. That should do the trick. For a comparatively minimal cost its a good first effort & the replacement tranny can come later - if ever.

Perhaps you're having other tranny issues that I haven't read about yet...

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
