There are several lights on the instrument panel. Which one blinks at you? I suggest doing a Search for "Blinking _____ Light".
Does the starter make any noise at all (e.g., clicking)? Makes me wonder if your battery terminals are in need of cleaning.
Also, I'm impressed you can get the car to start with the battery cable disconnected.
