You're slamming a movie you haven't seen.
You're making judgements on the movie based on clips you've seen.
You're making judgements based on a review or two you have read.
You disagree with Gibson's interpretation and you haven't even seen the movie?
For a movie you don't plan on seeing, you do have a lot to say.
So I guess you don't watch movies that aren't 100% accurate?
So I'm assuming you didn't watch movies like The Fast & The Furious and Blackhawk Down, right?

Why should I feel compelled to see a Movie that equals it's Rating to movies with porn, sickening violence, language and/or drug abuse. Just because it has Christian content we should see it? It's one thing to imagine what he went thru, but it's another to be de-sensitized by a movie's graphic portrayal of murder, torture and death.

Ok now scan to vs 4. If it's popular with non-Christians, should we like it?
Ps 146:3,4 2 Tim 2:22- a pure heart is needed for Followers of Jesus. Can we reconcile with God then, justify perhaps, that the gory pictures are going to make us feel PURE The fact that some of your consciences are actually feeling disturbed by the grapahic nature of it should tell you something.

you can have a pure heart while still feel "disturbed" and "moved" by the graphic images...just because you feel sympathetic by the graphicness of this particular depiction does not mean you are any less of a person...crucifixion is historly known to be one of the most painful methods of death known to man....
these are the same type of arguments that gave southern baptist a bad reputation....holding on to manmade gray lines in text and sketchy interpretations, that justify boycotting disney, etc.....

I agree. Its one mans way of expressing what he thinks. It may be right, may not be. If you don't like it, don't see it. Easy as that. Besides, didn't the pope have an opinion of it? I don't remember exactly what he said, but if it was bad and condemming it, chances are it wouldn't be doing as well as it is currently.

first, just a random comment on the spgoode's posts - to hang your hat on the condition of teeth is just moronic, and completely misses the point of the movie. go see the movie, and then let us know if all you take home from it is the status of dental hygiene in 33 a.d. moreover - to my take on the movie. i saw the 'passion' movie wed. night and thought it was, in a word, intense. not enjoyable, but amazingly good and powerful....and just, quite simply, intense. yes, there were some artistic licenses taken by mel gibson, but by and large the account appears to be very accurate and detailed. i've never heard a theater as quiet as after the movie ended - there wasn't a sound to be heard in the theater itself or in the exit corridors save for a few muted sobs. my g/f and i went to someone's house afterwards for a "dessert and debriefing" time of conversation and hardly said a word during that 10 minute drive. it's just something that has to soak in, i think....and it's an emotionally draining movie. even as a long-time Christian, my view of the crucifixion has been a "fast forwarded", watered-down version, i think. the phrase "He died on the cross for us" doesn't even begin to touch on the intense suffering and agony that led up to the actual death itself...and during every one of those scourging lashes i was reminding myself that those were for *me*, that *my* sins were the reason for Him having to suffer like that. it's more than sobering....it's humbling, it's saddening, it's eye-opening. and it all leaves you quite speechless. it's not a movie i would say you could "enjoy", and similarly it's hard to call it a "good" movie in the traditional sense of that adjective. it's well-done, it's powerful, it's moving....but it's not a feel-good movie, except in the sense that for the Christian who has faith in Christ and believes that his sins *were* paid for on that cross, there can be rejoicing in the grace God has shown us through it. i would think the movie would spur a need for repentance, which would *then* lead to joy....but the movie itself will leave you in tears, or at least stunned and speechless. for nonbelievers, there will of course be different reactions than believers to the movie....and not everyone who sees it will be impacted the way i or many others have been. regardless of that, though, it amazes me that some people can't get past the appearance of someone's teeth in the movie. talk about not seeing the forest for the trees! i'd highly recommend people go see it....it's certainly a perspective-changing movie and i'm glad to see it sparking the conversations that it has.

My brother just saw it. WRT to the violence, he says if you have seen an Aliens movie or a vietnam war movie, the gore won't shock you.

Actually, IIRC, it was practice in that day to release a prisoner upon spcific occasions. Pilate asked the crowd who he should release, Jesus (who he saw as guilty of no crime), or Baranbas, who was a convicted murderer. The crowd replied that he should release Barnabas. I don't have my text here with me, but I'm sure someone can find the passage.
