Ok people, please, before you slam the movie, GO SEE IT FIRST. That's all I ask.
I saw the movie yesterday. It was awesome. Awesome because it showed the true torture that Jesus endured for all of us. It was, however, EXTREMELY hard to watch. The Romans beat on him for 30 minutes, using cat-of-nine tails (sp?), among other things. The movie showed the whips ripping his flesh from his body. Very sobering. The rest of the movie was just as difficult to watch.
Both my wife and I grew up as Christians, and we were specifically watching for inaccuracies. The only thing we didn't remember being in the Bible was the crow pecking at one of the thieves' head after he mocked Christ.
I think Gibson did a good job of portraying Pilot. He definitely didn't come across as a tool of the Jewish leaders. He announced at least twice that Jesus did nothing wrong, then literally washed his hands of responsibilty for this death. Gibson also showed the brutality of the Romans.
Gibson also did a very good job weaving Satan into the movie. Satan was present in several scenes, which added a lot to the impact of the scenes.
Please see it and make up your own minds.
