"What did you think about that Dorothy girl?"
"The whole Judy Garland thing kinda turned me on. That doesn't make me some sort of fag does it?

Actually I have a question. Wasn't this the movie that received a lot of criticism and negative press several months ago for being potentially anti-semetic? Is anyone who's seen it able to comment on this aspect?

The anti-semitism charges were pretty much invented, as soon as it came out the reports stopped becasue people actually saw it and realized it wasn't at all... or so i hear. I'm seeing it saturday, i guess i'll find out.

Some people are so eager to cry anti-semitism that they would call a goyim eating a bagel in public a Nazi.

Four of my friends and I saw it yesterday. Needless to say, over half the population in the room was crying (not only females), and the rest were completely in shock at what was happening. On the drive home not one of us spoke a word.
My friend's AIM away message today says it best:

traumatic experience which brings about spiritual cleansing?
that's saying a lot for a movie
The Passion of the Christ
go see it

yeah, apparently past films have sparked anti semitism against jews, so of couse people were worred. but from what i'm hearing, gibson's version is not antisemetic.

My friend went and saw it last night in orlando. She drove about 3 hours to go and see it. I talked to her after she saw it and asked how it was and her exact words were, "I cant even put it into words. The entire place was bawling their eyes out. Even after the movie was over, people were still crying walking out to their cars. Its just so hard to believe one man did this all for you." It already made 20 million yesterday. Im sure this will be the biggest movie of the year. Btw, im seeing it sunday.

So hard to believe that I don't. Seriously though, I'm not a christian or jewish so I can look at the issue without prejudice. From what I've heard the jews are portrayed as conniving, with hook noses and bad teeth, whereas the desciples, who are also jews, are not. Also, much of the scenes are not supported by scruptures, but by the visions of two nuns back in the 19th century. And lastly, in the movie Pilot is coerced by the jewish leadership into crucifying christ against his better judgement. Apparently, no theologians, biblical scholars, or the Pope believe this to be true. It seems that Mel Gibson has let the ravings of his lunatic father distort his portrayal of the last 12 hours of the life of christ.

I'd say that 90% of today's Jews have about as much in common with the Jewish elite in Roman-controlled Jerusalem in 20-30AD as Ozzy Osborne does Pat Roberson, for the most part. Given that I think both are nuts, that may not have been the best example... From what I've heard from one of my wife's friends who attended an advance screening, it's not anti-semitic at all; at least no more than any burger shop that sells certain meat products on particular days of the week. Those of the Jewish faith would be doing themselves a serious favor by shouting down the idiots in their ranks that are claiming such; I know it's difficult for zealots in any religion to realize that their personal beliefs aren't the center of existance for a VAST number of other individuals on this planet... I'm seeing it this weekend as I'm very interested in the historical accuracy of it (count the number of movies in existance spoken totally in Latin and Aramaic on your hand, for starters) not to mention what kind of personal connection I can make with it as a rather flawed and outwardly lukewarm Christian. I know the story from a Christian perspective and a historical perspective (the Romans were viscious SOB's to ANYONE that threatened their rule); I'm anxious to see how well this movie bridges both.

I've heard Gibsons father ranting in a interview he did saying the Nazi's did not/could not have killed very many Jews during WW II. He said they all immigrated to the bronx, then proceeded to talk about how all Jews are lazy and are "pencil pushers".
I'm Agnostic but damn. If you don't think Mel had his father ranting at him for 18+ yrs about this and it didn't affect the movie, your wrong.
I also heard the filming of the Jews in the movie were always taken at a side profile thereby giving way to the stereotype of the big nosed Jews.
