Correct me if I'm wrong, but how does an inline 4 have more than 1 Bank of cylinders?
It's not that the 4 has more than one bank of cylinders, but that OBD-II has a fixed set of codes, so OBD-II does refer to different banks.
So you will get "Bank 1" codes on a Zetec, you just shouldn't/wouldn't see the bank two codes.
The codes are set by the Federal Government and are used by all cars sold in the USA regardless of how many banks.
I wonder what codes you get for the VW "W" style engines or a rotary engine in a Mazda RX8?

If I were one of those companies, I'd do the mandated codes but with supplementary codes to specify the exact thing.
