Hey Guys, My check engine light has been on for a while. I replaced wires plugs air filter and O2 sensor. I took it to autozone and they said Bank 1 lean.
what could it be? They sold me a O2 sensor but it did not do the trick. The car starts rough at first but then does fine. The problem is when I stomp on the gas, it does not pick up well after about 35000 rpm.

Welcome to CEG!
Year? Miles?
Did you replace the O2 on the exhaust manifold by the radiator? If so, clean your MAF and/or look for vacuum leaks. Replace the PCV valve and short rubber hose under the exhaust manifold.
Lack of power above 3500 RPM could well be a sign of a clogged catalytic converter or a crushed exhaust pipe.

I wanna know how you get it to 35000 RPM. Doesn't it sound a lot like a jet at those speeds?
j/k

Correct me if I'm wrong, but how does an inline 4 have more than 1 Bank of cylinders?

It's not that the 4 has more than one bank of cylinders, but that OBD-II has a fixed set of codes, so OBD-II does refer to different banks.
So you will get "Bank 1" codes on a Zetec, you just shouldn't/wouldn't see the bank two codes.
The codes are set by the Federal Government and are used by all cars sold in the USA regardless of how many banks.
I wonder what codes you get for the VW "W" style engines or a rotary engine in a Mazda RX8?
Hmmm,

This is helpful and logical.

If I were one of those companies, I'd do the mandated codes but with supplementary codes to specify the exact thing.

When the Mystique was showing a CEL my code reader refered to Bank One running lean. I replaced both O2 sensors, and still had the problem. I would reset the light each time, but it would still come on during heavy acceleration. I tried cleaning the MAF but no difference. Finally went to the dealer who replaced the MAF and it's been fine since.
