When I hit my horn, the pitch waivers quite a bit, plus our horns do not have a tendancy to demand much attention, so I am looking to replace my horn with an aftermarket horn. I have the 98 Ford CD, but it is really no help. When I bring up the horn installation/removal, it lists 3 horns. "Horn", "Horn with speed control", "Horn without speed control" and the "Horn" one looks pretty easy, except I can't really figure out where exactly that the horn is, but the "Horn with speed control" is talking about removing plates, screws, springs, and all kinds of stuff. Can anyone help me out? Thanks! -Spencer

the horn if it is the same on a msytique is behind the front bumper somewhere, you should be able to find it if you know what you are looking for
hope that helps

Replace the horn itself (under the hood).
For help in finding it, have someone press the horn pad while you have your head under the hood. You will find it very quickly.
See section 413-06, Horn, Removal and Installation for exact procedure.

Mine is behind the front bumper, down on the left, I think. It's up inside the bumper. Good luck!

Horns are at front left/right of car, behind bumper but in front of wheelwell. You have to remove the lower underside stone guard to see and gain access from below. Some models (including your's) came with only one horn but wiring should be in place to add the 2nd if desired.

Thank you all! That helps a lot!! I'm going to try to get in there today and take a look around, by the way... does anyone know much about aftermarket horns? fitment, sound, etc? I was just going to go to the auto parts store and buy whatever looked like it would fit and work, but I guess that's not a very smart idea. -Spencer

if you want a good horn, go to junk yard and get one off a 70 year ford, or early 90's ford.. i got a 93 taurus and the horn on it is alot louder than what came with our 96 contour..... and you can adjust the screw on the horn to get the pitch that you want.. and when it is correct you just paint some ladies fingernail polish on the screw so it does not move and go off the pitch you want... on a contor you gotta take off the plastic shield under the fornt of the car to get to it.... hope this helps.

I bought a horn at pep boys, that claimed to sound like a "big rig horn... twice as loud" and it looks almost exactly like our stock horn... I installed it and it is a lot higher pitch than our stock horn. I am definitely not happy with that. I am taking it off tomorrow and installing an old modified "aooga" horn that is uncomfortable to listen to because it's so loud. BTW, it does not make the old "aooga" noise... just a really loud, low blast. Thanks for the help anyways everyone!
