And why did she go public with this via a friggin Sports Illustrated article? Guess she's looking for her 15 minutes...

Well let me clarify a few things for you Katie has already had her 15 minutes of fame, first if she sucked so bad how is it that she was able to make not one but 2 Division 1 teams for kicking one of which went to two bowl games while she played and she did attend them. Also Katie is the only girl in NCAA Division 1 history to score any type of points. So I think she has a few more than 15 minutes of fame there.

As far as going public with this she felt it was right because of all the previous shiat that is going on at CU, I mean why did other CU girls go public about the other scandals, to get it out that CU sucks. And what the coach said about her why would he have recruited and even let her on the roster if he didn't think she had any talent, I'm guessing you have never done college athletics and seen how much money the football players get, both scholarship and walk on. Here at UNM the players get about $500 in clothes, that doesn't include all the supplements, trainer bills, traveling cost and then costs for food which is specially catered to them after every practice so God forbid they don't have to eat the awful mess hall food. So I would think twice before agreeing with the coach and thinking she's just wanting her time in the spot light.

Although I'm not trying to belittle her claim of rape, I still have to question the motives behind women who try to break into male dominated sports and want to play on men's teams. When a woman wants to compete in all male sports like football or wrestling, they are entering a highly physical world drenched with testrostrone. The physical contact inherent in either football or wrestling is a 'loaded gun'. Around here, a lot of controversy was generated when a girl tried to join the boy's high school wrestling team, and succeeded. The combination of close physical contact and teenage hormones is just asking for trouble. Most of the competing boys forfeited their matches, rather than get into the awkward situation of wrestling with a girl.

I used to be a manager of an industry that was exclusively male except for my secretary. When we were forced to accept a woman applicant 25 years ago, all hell broke loose. The particular women in this situation wanted the same 'rights' as the men, but didn't want to do the physical work, since she wasn't 'strong enough'. Even worse, the men's wives went on the warpath, because they were upset their husbands were working with a woman. They didn't want their hubbies spending the midnight shift with a woman....their imaginations went ballistic. We ended up with the female employee filing sexual harassment charges against virtually every male employee.

Anyway, as a result, I've not been the most supportive person when it comes to women breaking into male dominated fields. I feel the same way when it comes to sports, and I'm definitely NOT a supporter of Title IX. Yeah, I know my viewpoints are from the old school, but I can't condemn the Colorado coach.

The last I saw she wasn't filing charges. I think she just wanted people to know what happend.

So no woman should be allowed to ever play a sport, unless there's already a woman's team available, eh?

In essence, you're telling me that my girlfriend, who's been playing hockey for 20 years and loved every minute of it, should never have been allowed to play a sport that she loved, simply because there was no girl's team around at the time?

Don't be so closed minded. There are times where there are NO options, other than men's teams. It's not a matter of trying to enter into a "male dominated field." It's a lack of options for those that WANT to play a sport.

There was a time when there were no minorities in Baseball too and no one wanted a black man in baseball because it would cause too many "problems" with the players. They had to have their own separate "negro" league until men like Jackie Robinson proved (through much turmoil, suffering and personal sacrifice) that blacks could and should compete in baseball as EQUALS. I say anyone that has the conviction and the gigantic gonads it takes to be a pioneer like that should be respected not put down...regardless of whether it is a race/gender/or any other discrimination issue. As long as a female can do the same things a male kicker in football (or whatever position/sport) they should be allowed to play without being harrassed or treated unfairly.

Anything else to me is a spit in the eye of the American dream and all those who have died defending that dream and a complete slap in the face to all those who have suffered in the past in order to advance civil rights and equality in our nation.

Besides, none of the above really has anything to do with rape. Rape is wrong and a heinous crime NO MATTER WHAT. There is no excuse (testosterone, male dominated sports blah blah) that makes rape O.K. and if she was raped there is nothing ANYONE can say to me that wouldn't make me feel like it was "no big deal" or "she brought it on by trying to play men's sports"

The reality of our social situation today is that academia, industry and government is forcing diversity on society.
They have an orgasm when an applicant is a woman or a minority. I have witnessd this firsthand several times in my life. Once a company HR manager asked me if I knew of any other qualified engineers - preferably female or minority!
Another situation arose a few years back when I submitted my resume for an engineering position to a recruiter. I thought I was perfect for the job, but this jerk said I wasn't and belittled my qualifications.
Feeling angry, I sent my EXAC EXACT T resume back to him, including the telephone number and address (the idiot didn't recognize them), but with my wife's maiden name instead of mine.
True story - within five minutes after emailing the resume, he called our house asking the speak with my wife about this job! Talk about discrimination!
Bottom line? I believe women should play on women's teams and men should play on men's teams. Co-ed sports should be left to college intramural teams and not intercollegiate sports.

So, all women who live in areas where women's teams are not available should have absolutely no outlet to play organized sports, then?

our school is going down the drain. . . . im sure my parents are thrilled they are paying for me to go here. first number one party school, then like 5 rape cases involving the football players, and the sex parties.

i dont want to publicly announce details, but this rape thing has been taken to a whole new level for me b.c of a football players actions on one of my friends. she was raped by a player that lives in the dorms with her. positively, no question. it happened. it is bullsh!t, and the school needs to start punishing the players instead of just saying stop, b.c they obviously dont know what stop or no means. this isnt the first girl. this is like the 7th girl who has come forward. it needs to stop its shady that they just now come forward, but that doesnt mean any past wrongs are better now.

yeah that girl sucked, but who the hell stands there and says she was a terrible player when you are talking about her getting raped? the next words i expected out of his mouth was the she deserved it cause she sucked so bad! i mean come freakin on.

personally, i hate barnett and hope he gets fired. he sucks real bad. SPURRIER COME TO CU! HELP US!
