What is the best alarm out there? is this the place to post? i don't know. but i need an alarm and i'm not too keen on the viper 300 series. is there a better one? one that has good range, low false hits, and used the ford fobs??

thanks for any input.

JTI-Nobody messes with it- is a good alarm company. You also have Excalibur. If you have a company that sells it out there you might want to take a look at the new TRC Xtreme alarm products. Other than that all alarms are pretty much made by the same company they just have different names and logos on them.

I love my code alarm. Dual shock sensor and all. If I tap the car in any corner it will shock stage 1. That's a light honk. I can only comment on this as this is the only one I have.

FWIW, the dealer that sold me this is our only auth alpine, code, crime stopper and this is what he had in his Mercedes!

Don't mean to rain on your parade but code alarms are the worst. They don't use a rolling code, which means they all use the same frequency makin it easier for someone to unlock your car with a different device.

sure their fruit cake! If someone wants your gear, they'll grab it regardless. An alarm is only as good as it's install but the worst....wow, you must know your stuff to make that claim :p

Wow you must now your stuff

Obvioulsy you don't. Not claiming to be an expert but coicendently alarms and glass has just been added to my list of do's at work and as part of my on the job training the present installer explained to me that they are not as advanced as other alarms and have not changed there ways in some time. That may be a reason for code-alarms lower price and as far as being installed prorperly is not an issue here. The list of so-called features listed below are pretty much your standard for any alarm not anything out of this world. As far as the best alarm out there I don't have any input on this, but I must say the ford alarm and remote start system is pretty good but expensive of course.

Here's a thought: If you had an alarm that was 100% foolproof, not even you could get past it. I'm no expert either, but I do believe the install is just as important as the alarm you choose. You may not know that yet, but you still have a few classes to take, right? If I might ask, what alarm do you have/plan on having? Looks like TonyD proved you wrong, maybe you were reading an old brochure? I don't mean to jump on your ****, but don't go around talking about what people have before you know exactly what they have. Also, I think TonyD was just posting the specs on the alarm, he wasn't trying to impress you. Anyways, I have a Sidewinder 6500ESP Alarm/Remote Start w/battery back up siren, hood pin, glass breakage sensor, and a mercury tilt switch in the trunk. Let me know what your present installer thinks of it. I happen to be very pleased with it for the $399 I paid for it(expertly installed, of course).

Goin' for the jet-puff marshmallow bag!! I have a feeling it's about to warm up in here.

I don't have an opinion one way or the other on Code Alarm's products. However, I have a very strong opinion on install quality/creativity. An installer who REALLY cares about doing the best job possible, [read: getting paid to take the time] in SLOWING DOWN a thief, will go to great lengths to harden the target. Some of the better ones I've see had "dummy" alarm wiring harnesses
located in the "usual" places under the driver's side dash. The real ones were carefully concealed
from easy view on their way to a well thought out location for the brain. Going to the trouble to make the siren, and it's wires as difficult as possible to reach quickly so it can't be silenced so readily. Creative valet switch locations etc. etc. etc.. There is more. Much more, but MOST installers never go to such lengths during install. Most people won't pay the extra money for somebody to do it right.

I would rather have a "lower-end" alarm, installed in a way that fu%ked with the thief's head for a while, than a top of the line model with all the trick of the week goodies that he could get past in a few short seconds because it was just put in the "usual" way. And believe me, there really is a great deal of COMMON industry practices that thieves look for.

Rant off...

Just to clear things up and avoid a possible grudge that does not need to take place, I have nothing against livinsvt, just the few posts I read above. When I first read it, it upset me that he would rip on TonyDs alarm without finding out all of the facts. That is all. Apologies for being snippy about it in advance. wink

Very good point, the install is the critical, good alarm great install makes the system more difficult to infultrate. Great system not so good install makes the system very easy to get around. Definatley look into the work of the installer before you let them touch your car, I'm sure if there work is great they would have some vehicles to show you. As for systems Viper does make great systems at very reasonable prices and technology wise, I believe the best in the business why, they are the largest manufacturer of auto security in North America, most of the vehicle manufacturer's are now going to DEI (Directed Electronics Inc) the manufacturer of Viper, Python, Sidewinder and more, to make there systems. I've sold DEI products for almost 10 years and if done right I get the least amount of headaches with there systems. If you have a big budget and want a really cool system look into the Compustar by Forcetech, very cool system range 1/4 mile no problem, status indicating paging system etc...

Good Luck
