Also watch out for the O/D button wire. It doesn't allow for too much pull on the shifter (don't pull with all your might since it could snap that wire.)
True, but I put a new shifter on (with O/D button),, electrical tape is your friend.
OR just do it the easy way....relocate the button.
Get a nice shift handle with the O/D button on it like Kremi and I. Much easier
What I did was easy....just lengthened the O/D buttons and put the button in the tray (pre98 console) and used a nice SMALL shifter....I didn't like the HUGE shifter for the Cougar/Contour.
I pulled the wire right off the button itself. Drove around forever without the handle on. But it's all back together now with the pre-98 console installed and looks better than all your cars put together!!!

Sorry hector your "stick" shifter looks like pooo, mine actually looks good and has some style, who cares if it sticks up 5mm higher than your's. And much easier to install, no relocating a button, elongating any wires,etc... Just rip off old shifter, tape wires together, and put new shifter on. And my car is faster and looks better than everyone's else cuz it's got yellow on it.

Relocating the button was very easy. I didn't like how big the aftermarket shift was.

Hector, man... I like the Carbon Fiber theme, but the toggle switch looks kinda funny there by itself...
Otherwise, sweet! I like the red dash and I never thought to put a boot on an ATX. That rod underneath is no show quality piece, for sure. I machined an aluminum sleeve to cover the rod and for the shifter to mount to, and polished it.
Good pictures, no doubt.
