Call your dealer or mechanic and ask.

Labor will depend on WHICH sensor is to be replaced.

Parts cost will depend on wholesale cost plus markup.

You can do one yourself for around $50-60.

Alright I called the dealer and he said something around $130 - $150 (Candian) depending on whether or not it is upstream or downstream.

I don't know which one it will be, I'll describe the problem.

I was searching around earlier for a solution to the "rotten egg" smell. I've replaced my catalytic converter, had a tune up, have had everything done except for the o2 sensors. The smell was there before the cat was replaced, as with the CEL.

Now the CEL is still on and the rotten smell is still there.

So from searching it looks like it has something to do with the o2 sensors. So my question I guess is, how can I go about doing the work myself, if even possible. Also, is it "upstream" or "downstream"?

Hopefully this makes sense, I'm just trying to peice together everything.

Yes, it is easy to replace. I have had to replace the upstream and downstream in my Contour. The upstream failed at about 50,000, then the downstream went at about 58,000 actually a few weeks ago.

The upstream will effect your gas mileage badly, downstream somewhat.

I didnt replace it myself so I cant help ya out to much but to replace upstream, but if you look at your car down by the radiator there it is. You need a O2 sensor socket maybe to pull it out, then follow the wire wherever it leads to unbolt it and then replace it.

Downstream the car must raised up to do.

Do you have any CEL codes?

That's the weird thing, is that they never detected anything with the o2 sensors when they checked the codes. At the time I had a bad catalytic converter and knew it, and the code for that wasn't even showing up. So they said there was nothing they could do, so I told them to drive the car around until the light came on, and sure enough it did. That was for the catalytic converter.

The light is on again now, and this seems to be the only logical explaination. So I'll probably have to take it in get them to read the code (hopefully it will show up this time), and then I'll have to get them to replace it.

Do you know if it would be upstream or downstream with my symptoms? Or both? Mainly it's just the rotten smell and bad mileage. That's what I know so far.

I hate winter driving, if something is going to go, it always does it in the winter.
