I actually have seen pictures of a car with multiple computers in it. They had a low powered computer up front as a thin client and a media server in the trunk.

Verizon just came out with a wireless service for the Chicago area, not too sure on the specifics but thay claim in adverts that anyone with a PCMCIA card in the computer can have "high speed" access within like three counties (Cook, DuPage, and i think Will.)
This is still relatively new so I'm not sure how well/fast the network runs.
On a side note, the lighter in the contour works w/o the ignition on right? I was thinking about having a wake on wireless lan on a computer in my contour. If that doesn't work then I think I'll go with a remote starter and do file copies from my house.
T-Mobile has free wireless internet via the data cable and setting up a dial up account with no user/pass with the number *99# (also works on iWireless with my T-Mobile phone, BTW). My friend here tells me with his data cable he also gets free internet.
Anyhow, I was in-process of getting the parts for a carputer. I had everything thought out, even bought the Lilliput 7" touch screen LCD.
Check out what progress I had...
Well, I sold the LCD for $200 on Ebay so I could get home for the holidays. When I get back from the desert, I'm gonna build this mofo again. Not to mention they have a new screen out for 2005... Don't be fooled by low prices, though. Check out the brightness, the Lilliput has the highest brightness I've seen (400nit, but only 200:1 contrast). All the others are 300 or less (innovatek, etc.).

Wow, just came up with an idea. I should measure my car when I get it back to see if I can mount a 14 or 15 inch LCD in front of the shifter... that would be bad ass compared to the 7" Lilliput...

I think I heard that new customers can't do that anymore. Maybe there still is a trick to getting it to do that.
And I think a 14/15" monitor wouldn't look right at all, if you could even figure out a way to do it.

I don't see there being enough room for a 15" monitor, but with some work, I could see a 10.4" fitting.
