Sorry man but that looks gghhheeeetttttoooooo.

Damn i didnt think anybody has gone through with that. How did he do it, with bondo and paint? I would try and make something a little cleaner looking, but its all possible. The mystique part is a little different and easier to work with for this type of an install. I want to have a switch powering a 2nd cigarrette lighter in the trunk, which powers the power inverter, which powers the computer. It would be a custom case made of plexi glass, and painted. I would extend the wires to have an external dvd-rom in the glove box (unless I find a new place to custom-install it in the cd-player area) and a hard drive bay so that I can easily take my hard drive out and put it back in if i need to do any extra work on it at the home computer. Ive got a lot of ideas, and now you guys are making me want to start with the mystique, but damn this car is going soon... but maybe it will make the car easier to sell? I have one issue with that screen in the picture is that its a little small, and its not a touch screen. I DO NOT want to have to use a mouse everytime i want to play an mp3.

There is a way to take apart your keyboard, and make custom buttons right next to your screen for certain letters. You can program a few letters to do certain commands on winamp, so you can make a few buttons simulate the letters "P" (for play) "S" (for stop) "F" (for forward) and so on. Ive actually started on that last year. You can make winamp the shell of the operating system, instead of explorer. This way only winamp shows up on the screen, and its the first thing that boots up on the computer. This I would do, but now I think ill just get the touchscreen and watch movies.

As you can see, this has been in my head for a very long time.

There are remotes that us RF or IR ports via usb that have drivers for winamp, media player, windvd, etc. They also have mouse buttons if you wish. ATI makes one and there is another company that makes one with a setup... Then there is IRMAN which uses any old tv, vcr, etc remote.

Touch screens take too much attention while driving, a remote is easy to memorize, and therefore safer to use.

God graced us with intelligence, let's use it.

Its great to see the sudden surge of interest in this. When i first posted about it i felt ignored. Maybe i should change my signature to show what mods i have done with the pc so far and perhaps that will drive me to do more to it.

The IRMAN can be bought here http://www.evation.com/irman/

Many companies are coming out with their own remotes for their computers now (I know dell has one but I dont know how well it will work with other software)

HVAC is going below the cd player so I have that whole nice big area above for my LCD. The ashtray and lighter are going bye bye.

...and yes, all the trim is going to be painted that day too.

I dont know if you assessed the work yet but the HVAC wires will have to be extended and and theres also small vacuum tubing that my limit where you can move it to. You may have to cut away some plastic behind consoles also, but you shouldnt have any other problems moving it there though.

I wish I had that center console like yours it would have made my install so much simpler. Ive gone through so many versions and i ended up mounting the monitor under the radio. The short throw shifter is still in the way but tolerable for the moment. I still want a more integrated look though so i may give it another shot.

I currently have a 6" LCD screen where my radio and HVAC controls were... now the radio is in the "pocket" of a pre-98 console and the HVAC controls are custom fitted where the armrest "was". Made a plate to mount the unit in, and put it in the armrest "hole". Its not very diffuclt to relocate... just tedious. Just moving the controls down a a foot from its current location shouldn't need any extensions in wire of vac hoses... mine seemed to be long enough for it to go where the ashtray is. But, I ran mine quite a long distance.... PM me for a way to easly do this with the vac hoses if you do have to extend them.

Can you show us some pictures? I dont need to relocate anything because in the mystique console I have two dins right next to eachother with no break like in the contours. It will look perfect under the HVAC controls. I just need to figure out how im going to custom install it. I am probably going to put my cd player where the ash tray is.

Verizon just came out with a wireless service for the Chicago area, not too sure on the specifics but thay claim in adverts that anyone with a PCMCIA card in the computer can have "high speed" access within like three counties (Cook, DuPage, and i think Will.)

This is still relatively new so I'm not sure how well/fast the network runs.

On a side note, the lighter in the contour works w/o the ignition on right?
I was thinking about having a wake on wireless lan on a computer in my contour. If that doesn't work then I think I'll go with a remote starter and do file copies from my house.
