I found this in my links and totally forgot about it. Prices aren't bad and I think it'd be pretty cool to have in a car. Too bad I've already dumped more $$$$ into my SVT to justify doing it Check it out....... http://www.gnetcanada.com/

Actualy they have always been overpriced. I dont know about their regular car video type of stuff but their computer video screens have always been way over priced.
And don't get me started on their high PC prices.

Who else offers PC's that are meant for auto use w/ warranty? I'm sure it would be cheaper to put something together yourself.....

I have a few friends who have put older computers in their cars, just to listed to mp3s. Granted, this was about 5-6 years ago before mp3 cd players and the iPod was out.

I would not exactly say they are meant for auto use. More like they are usable for auto use and are sold for that. IIRC the Aurora Auto PC (MSRP $1699 US) is just a EZgo E7041S barebones they are $549 from directron http://www.directron.com/ezgoii.html you can get everything added on except the DVD drive (P4 2.0 insted of the celeron 2400) from directron for a total of $1127.99 (built and tested) and I am sure you could pick up the touchpad and DVD drive and touchpad and digital dash software(from gnetcanada) if you want it for less than $500. I am also sure you could get ome of the parts cheaper than getting them direct from directron other places but I dont have the time to look right now. The other PC they offer is the same sort of deal. I don't know who makes that one for sure but I am sure a little looking would poke it out.

I was planning on building a pc for my mystique, but I decided it wasnt worth it since im selling her anyways. I have some great ideas for it and it will cost about 600 dollars to make anyways. A touch screen made custom into the dash with some bondo, sanding and paint, where the spots are for a cd player. I would move the cd player to where the ash tray and cigarette lighter is and the computer would sit in the trunk. Since its a touch screen I can do whatever I want without needing to hassle with a mouse, and a wireless keyboard would sit in the glovebox in case i want to go online when im parked. I would have wireless networking so that I can park outside of the house, download music, movies, and even go to contour.org if I need to see a how-to for something in the car. I would also connect the OBD-II diagnostics to the computer, so I can see what is going on in real-time while driving. Possibilities are endless with a computer in the car. You can even put in a few hidden cameras and have the computer record what is going on around it. With a little bit of work, when the alarm goes off you can have it start recording too.
If I had a few hundred bucks, and hopes of keeping my car longer, I would do it. Either way its just a mystique, so ill wait. The concept has been around for a few years, and its cool to see theres a company that took the concept into the commerical world.
