Yeah thanks noob, like I said it's just sitting in the trunk, the Contour goes bye bye soon and I took everything out. I just put it back temporarily so you guys could see how much space a 3 cubic foot box uses up  .

Just an idea.. you could be like me, and go for JL 18w6's. Originally i was going for 6 10's because it has more surface area than 3 12's, but uses the same amount of enclosure space. But then i realized the 18's.. they very small box sizes at 1.75cuft. That's the maximum recommended enclosure size. I have 2 of those in my car in a box that is a little less than 4 cu. ft. If u look around, you could find one for sale. Just my 2 cents.

Give me more beer and CEG before i get depressed!

There are quite a few people who have mounted a 8" sub under the deck. There is also an installation of an enclosure under there as well. So, it can definitely be done.
What's pros\cons of mouning 8" under rear shelf against something huge in a trunk ?

I thinkg with 8" in a opening you should get more detailed bass.

Pros:
Takes up almost no usable trunk space

Cons:
Doesn't have the low frequency output, say below 30Hz
Less efficient - need more power for free air than sealed.

Actually, it should be more effecient. It takes less power to use up the full excursion of the woofer.

Also, it shoudl offer excellent transient response as the Q will be dependent on the Qtc of the woofer which is typically .7 or lower. The lower the Q the better the transient response.

The 8" just doesn't have the capability to move enough air to really push any serious SPL.
